Vincent de Roder
Vincent de Roder (° 1958) lives and works in Wetteren, Belgium
These works are painted in rather austere surfaces, clearly distinguishable the one from the other. The colours are not withdrawn. They sometimes shimmer in fluorescent lights. It gives the works an internal tension:a contemporaneity in the colours and a tranquillity in the setting of the paint. On the colour pathways a tight line is drawn in sharp folds and on the rest a pedestrian stroke so within one and the same work we have a passivity and a dynamism. The line which barely takes up any space ammonite the areas of colour, unbalances the background but does maintain its balance in a sweltering way.The line has freed itself from the form, the colour has conquered its independence.’(Johan Velter)
