Krista Autio (°1968) is a Finnish artist who works and lives in Brussels. After completing her study at the Free Art School in Helsinki, she participates in several postgraduate programs in France and Spain. As the different lifestyles, habits, daily rhythms, and artistic trends are a source of inspiration, her foreign experiences influence her work. Still, Autio wants to remain true to herself and she perceives her art as a medium in the search for that self. Simplicity and authenticity are only achieved after a meditative, ritual, and slow process, sometimes involving six to ten layers of oil paint. Less is more, also in this series. Starting with some tangible and intuitive emotions, Autio listens to what the canvas asks for, carefully refining the work, until one color shade exposes the naked essence.
